M&R Films

M&R FILMS is an UK production company, specialising in feature films and documentaries. Founded in 2012 in Stratford­Upon­Avon by Luke Massey and Benjamin Read, with the avowed intent to set up a vehicle to make completely independent films. M&R Films saw the theatrical release of their debut feature, ARMISTICE, in 2013.

Working with an inhouse production team and a close circle of actors, including Joseph Morgan and Matt Ryan, who have been involved from the very formation of the company, M&R Films continues to create independent work. Since the successful release of ARMISTICE, M&R Films have produced another feature film, the forthcoming 500 MILES NORTH, and also the feature documentary, THREE WHEELS NORTH. Another feature and a sports documentary are soon to be announced.

Our Team

Luke Massey is a 28 year old English Writer/Director. Luke was trained by the BBC before working as a DOP on several short films for the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2012 Luke was DOP on ‘Revelation’ starring Persia White and directed by Joseph Morgan, which has appeared in over a dozen high­end film festivals in America including Atlanta and New York. In 2013 Luke wrote and directed his first feature Armistice, starring Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries, Immortals) and Matt Ryan (Flypaper, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour) which received a theatrical release in January 2014 in the US before its DVD release in March 2014. Luke is now working on the post­production of his second feature, 500 Miles North, again working with Joseph Morgan and Matt Ryan. 500 Miles North also stars Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy), Wendy Glenn (Mercy, 666: The Prophecy) and Sue Johnston (Brassed Off ). As well as 500 Miles North, Luke is also overseeing the post­production and release of M&R Films’ first feature documentary Three Wheels North.

Benjamin Read is an English writer and film producer. He wrote and produced his first feature, Armistice, starring Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries, Immortals) and Matt Ryan (Flypaper, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour) in 2013, and went on to write and produce a second independent feature, 500 Miles North, starring Joseph Morgan, Matt Ryan, Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy), Wendy Glenn (Mercy, 666: The Prophecy) and Sue Johnston (Brassed Off). He also writes graphic novels, and wrote the tie ­in comics for True Grit and Super 8. Most recently, he has founded Improper Books, an independent comics imprint, which has released a series of new books, including ‘Porcelain: A Gothic Fairy Tale’ and ‘Briar’, to some acclaim. Benjamin is currently writing the next instalments in the comics series, and his first novel.

Joseph Morgan is a British actor, from London. He took early roles in “Master & Commander: The Far Side of The World” and Oliver Stone’s “Alexander“, opposite Colin Farrell. In 2010 he played the title role in the ABC mini-series, “Ben Hur“. He has recently appeared as Lysander in the U.S. Box Office hit “Immortals” and co-starred in Tribeca selected Independent film “Angels Crest“. He played vampire arch-villain, Klaus, in the hit U.S. show “The Vampire Diaries” and got such positive response for the role that he was given his own spinoff show “The Originals” which centres around his character. This in turn was received so well that Joseph was given the People’s Choice Award in the category “Favourite Actor in a New TV Series”. The show has also had an early pick up for its second season. Joseph has gained a worldwide fan base, with well over a million twitter followers. He recently played opposite Sharto Copley (District 9, The A-Team) in Gonzalo López-Gallego’s new thriller “Open Grave“, and was the lead in the forthcoming “Dermaphoria” alongside Ron Perlman (Hell Boy, Drive) and Walton Goggins (Justified, Django Unchained). Joseph is is also a founding member, executive producer and creative consultant with M&R Films.

Matt Ryan is a British actor, from Swansea. He has featured in “Layer Cake”, Showtime’s “The Tudors”, and “Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day” alongside Frances McDormand and Amy Adams. He went on to play the lead role of Mick Rawson in “CBS’ Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour”, opposite Academy Award winner, Forest Whittaker. He also featured in heist movie “Flypaper” with Ashley Judd and Patrick Dempsey. On stage, he has twice played opposite Jude Law – in Hamlet and Henry V for The Donmar and the Michael Grandage Company respectively, as well as two seasons of leading roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is the lead role of Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag computer game and, most recently, stars as the lead in the keenly-awaited NBC show of DC Comics’, “Constantine”. Matt is also a founding member, executive producer and creative consultant with M&R Films.

Mark Kendrick has a background in digital media design, VFX and sound design. He has trained in many different aspects of multimedia and has worked across a wide variety of media formats from feature films, including ARMISTICE and 500 MILES NORTH, through to advertising campaigns and mobile applications for such companies as the R.S.C and The Royal Opera House. Mark was a producer on Armistice, 500 Miles North and is currently working on overseeing M&R Films first feature doc ‘Three Wheels North’.

Wendy Shepherd is an marketing expert and entrepreneur who has developed dozens of successful websites over the last 18 years. She has a background in digital graphics, website design, online publicity, social media management, marketing, online publishing and more. She works with well-known entertainment talent and films and has run a number of high-profile marketing campaigns and has been credited as an associate producer in a couple of films.
